What is an MSG File?

MSG is the file extension of Microsoft Outlook. It is an Outlook mail message file that stores email messages, contacts, tasks or appointments. Each MSG file may contain one or more than one email field to store date, sender, recipient, appointment details, contact info and message body. It also includes hyperlinks and custom formatting. In case, an MSG file is not related to MS Outlook, it may be saved in the Fallout Message File format to saves game dialogue and messages. MSG files can access to those programs using MAPI.

Creating an MSG file is super easy. Follow the drag and drop method to create an MSG file to save a contact, message and appointment from an outlook folder to a Windows Explorer folder. The file will be saved in MSG format with an extension name .msg.

If you are looking open an MSG file in your MS Outlook, double click the file. In case, Outlook has not been selected as a default app to open an MSG file, all you need to select the file and right-click to select Outlook as default from the drop-down option.
